Avenue of the Giants
A 33-mile scenic section highway,
paralleling the current Highway 101 between Phillipsville
and Pepperwood as it winds along the course of the Eel River.
Magnificent Redwoods overshadow the other trees of the
surrounding forest, such as oak, madrone, pepperwood and maple.
The road has two lanes with many parking areas, picnic sites,
and nature trails for a close look at some of
California's most beautiful redwood groves.
Back to our Home State
We still have a few days left
before we have to be back to work,
so we decided to take in the beauty of
Northern California
PEBBLE BEACH
Accessible by the spectacular 17-Mile Drive,
Pebble Beach provides, perhaps, the most scenic setting
for golf and recreation in the world. With its famous championship
golf courses, it is hailed as a mecca for golfers. Pebble Beach
hosts a variety of world class golf tournaments, including
the U.S. Open and the annual AT&T Pebble Beach Pro Am.
Its stunning coastline includes Cypress Rock, Bird Rock and
the Lone Cypress, one of the most photographed landmarks
on the California coast
Everyone loves Pebble Beach
Even the animals at Bird Rock
What a beautiful drive......
We still have time to stop at Hearst Castle
so we had better get moving !
HEARST CASTLE
Cuesta Encantada was William Randolph Hearst's romantic name for
his palatial estate on a rocky knoll of the Santa Lucia Mountains.
Five miles inland and 1,600 feet above San Simeon Bay, the Enchanted Hill's
127 acres of gardens, terraces, pools and guest houses provide a dramatic
setting for the magnificent 137 ft. high
Mediterranean Revival mansion, Casa Grande.
That was a full day. It's time to settle down for the night.
Since we love our California Wines, and our wine cellar needs re-stocking,
our next stop will be Napa Valley.
